Donald Trump has threatened Apple with a 25% tariff if the company continues manufacturing iPhones outside the U.S., particularly in India. Posting on Truth Social, Trump reiterated his demand that iPhones sold in the U.S. be made domestically, not abroad. This warning comes amid his administration’s ongoing trade war and increased tariffs, which have already raised concerns from major companies like Walmart about rising prices. Apple recently announced it would shift most iPhone production to India and produce other devices like iPads and Macs in Vietnam to reduce dependency on China.
Apple said the trade tariffs could cost them an additional \$900 million for the second quarter of the year. CEO Tim Cook confirmed these production shifts aim to diversify manufacturing locations. However, industry experts caution that this move might still lead to higher prices for consumers. Analyst Jacob Bourne questioned the feasibility of Apple’s timeline and warned of shrinking profit margins. Dan Ives from Wedbush Securities estimated that the next iPhone could cost as much as \$3,500—almost triple the current price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. UNILAD has contacted Apple for further comment.
