Trump issues scathing five-word Greenland
Donald Trump has reignited controversy with comments about potentially acquiring Greenland for the U.S., suggesting military action isn’t off the table. While both Greenland and Denmark have firmly rejected the idea, Trump claims the territory is crucial for international security due to rising activity from Russian and Chinese vessels in the surrounding waterways. He emphasized that the U.S. can’t rely on Denmark to manage this strategic area, adding that Greenland’s small population would be “taken care of” if annexed.
These remarks have sparked fears of a global conflict, as any U.S. aggression toward Greenland—an autonomous Danish territory—could trigger NATO’s Article 5, which treats an attack on one member as an attack on all. Trump also commented on the idea of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state, though he said military action wouldn’t be necessary there. Greenland’s leadership remains defiant, with Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reiterating that the island will not be taken by any country and will determine its own future.
