Trump makes brutal decision after National Guard shooting sending White House into lockdown

Two National Guard members were shot near the White House on Wednesday, November 26, prompting a swift federal response and a temporary lockdown of the nation’s capital.

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser described the attack as a “targeted shooting.” The two service members from the West Virginia National Guard were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

President Donald Trump reacted on Truth Social, condemning the attacker and praising the injured guardsmen and law enforcement. He promised that the shooter, who was also wounded, would “pay a very steep price.”

Following the incident, the Trump administration deployed an additional 500 National Guard troops to Washington. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the order came directly from Trump.

Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who reportedly entered the United States in 2021. He was shot multiple times during the confrontation and hospitalized. NBC News reported that investigators are examining whether the attack may have been an act of terrorism.

In response to the suspect’s nationality, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced an immediate halt to all immigration processing for Afghan nationals, citing the need to review security and vetting procedures.

The decision aligns with Trump’s renewed stance on immigration, calling current policies “the single greatest national security threat” and labeling Afghanistan “a hellhole on earth.” He also stated that his administration would reassess all Afghan entrants admitted under former President Joe Biden.
