Trump sparks talk of early retirement after suggesting he could swap the White House for a hosting career

Donald Trump has recently hinted at the idea of leaving the White House, joking that he might instead pursue a career as a full-time television host.

On Tuesday, December 23, the 79-year-old Republican raised the question directly to his supporters, asking whether they would back such a move if it became a serious option.

Trump shared the comment on Truth Social while promoting the upcoming Trump–Kennedy Center Honors. The ceremony, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+, celebrates major entertainment figures such as Sylvester Stallone, KISS, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, and Michael Crawford.

In his post, Trump confirmed he would host the event at the request of the board. He then asked followers to rate his hosting skills and jokingly questioned whether he should give up the presidency to host events full time.

It is unclear whether the comment was serious or simply another example of Trump teasing his audience. The remark comes nearly ten years after he stepped away from The Apprentice, the reality show that significantly boosted his public image.

Trump hosted The Apprentice from 2004 to 2015, helping transform him into a household name. Critics later argued the show exaggerated his business success despite financial setbacks.

His role as host of the honors ceremony has also stirred controversy due to the venue’s recent renaming to the Trump–Kennedy Center, a decision strongly criticized by members of the Kennedy family, who say the memorial should not be altered.
