Trump speaks out after two Israeli embassy staff
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly condemned the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staff in Washington, D.C., which occurred on May 21. The victims, believed to be a young couple, were shot near the Capital Jewish Museum after attending an event. The suspect, 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, allegedly opened fire at close range and was arrested shortly after, reportedly shouting “free, free Palestine” while in custody. Police confirmed the suspect had no prior criminal record and implied his actions were motivated by antisemitism. Authorities also reported that the suspect directed them to where he discarded the weapon.
Trump reacted on his Truth Social platform, calling the attack a clear act of antisemitism and urging an end to such hatred and violence in the U.S. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families. The Israeli ambassador to the U.S. revealed the couple had planned to get engaged soon. Other leaders, including U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Israeli officials, have strongly condemned the attack, labeling it an act of antisemitic terrorism. Israeli President Isaac Herzog emphasized unity between the U.S. and Israel in fighting hatred and upholding shared values.
