TV show makes Elon Musk

Elon Musk has urged people to cancel their Netflix subscriptions over a single show, despite its critical acclaim. The Tesla CEO shared multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter) from users who said they were leaving the platform, endorsing their decisions. He even advised parents to “cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”

The show at the center of the controversy is Dead End: Paranormal Park, which aired in 2022 and ran for two seasons with 20 episodes. It has received high praise, scoring 100% on the Tomatometer and 73% in audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Musk’s criticism stems from a clip where the show’s protagonist, Barney Guttman, comes out as transgender. The series, rated TV-Y7 for children, has sparked backlash from groups such as Gays Against Groomers and Libs of TikTok, who argue that such topics are inappropriate for young viewers.

Musk has actively supported posts calling for Netflix cancellations, framing the platform as promoting content related to the trans community to children. His stance on the show aligns with his broader, controversial views regarding transgender issues.

His estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, who transitioned and is now 21, has publicly criticized Musk’s positions. He has described the “woke mind virus” as having damaged their relationship, further fueling tensions.

Netflix has faced similar criticism in the past, notably for Dave Chappelle’s specials in 2021, which were criticized for transphobic content. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos defended the company, emphasizing artistic freedom and the impossibility of pleasing everyone.

Musk’s call to boycott Dead End: Paranormal Park reflects a pattern of challenging platforms he disagrees with, following previous disputes with companies such as Facebook, NPR, and Apple over OpenAI.
