U.S. Soldier Snapped Standing To Attention In The Pouring Rain – Let’s Pay Him Tribute
On July 6, 2017, in Vine Grove, Kentucky, Erin Hester witnessed a touching moment that deeply moved her. While stopped at a highway intersection, she noticed a U.S. soldier standing outside his car in the pouring rain, silently honoring a passing funeral procession.
The soldier wasn’t connected to the ceremony, nor did he know the deceased. Yet, he chose to show respect in a powerful and humble way.
Hester was so impacted by the scene that she took a photo and shared it online, saying, “This gentleman went above and beyond… It made my heart happy to see the respect he showed to a family he didn’t even know.”
The photo quickly gained widespread attention and was soon shared across social media platforms.
The soldier was later identified as Colonel Jack L. Usrey of the Tennessee Army National Guard. When asked about the moment, he modestly downplayed the attention.
He explained that he simply wanted the grieving family to feel supported, especially in such gloomy weather. He hoped his small act would offer comfort.
Colonel Usrey also credited his parents for instilling in him the importance of showing respect. His quiet gesture became a strong reminder of honor, empathy, and dignity in everyday moments.
