Urgent: 7.7 Earthquake Rocks Region — Rescue Efforts Underway

In the quiet of night, the earth suddenly erupted with violent force.

The ground split and shook without warning, tearing through towns and shaking buildings until some crumbled entirely. Terrified residents fled barefoot into the streets as the tremors grew stronger.

What started as a faint vibration quickly became a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest the region has endured in years.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck early Monday near the China–Myanmar border, with its epicenter just 10 kilometers underground. The shallow depth magnified its destructive power.

Severe shaking was felt across southern China, northern Thailand, and deep into Myanmar. In Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, residents evacuated in panic as tall structures swayed.

Tragically, officials have already confirmed dozens dead and hundreds injured. Many more remain trapped beneath collapsed buildings as rescue crews struggle against damaged roads, power outages, and downed communication lines.

Emergency teams are working nonstop to deliver medical care, food, and shelter. The coming hours will be critical, as international aid and coordination become vital to saving as many lives as possible.
