US court makes bombshell ruling on Donald Trump
Donald Trump has faced a significant setback after a US court blocked his sweeping tariffs. Since returning to the White House in January as the 47th president, Trump has aggressively imposed tariffs, triggering a global trade war with countries like China and the EU. On April 2, he declared it “Liberation Day” and announced new tariffs, but the Manhattan-based Court of International Trade ruled that Trump lacked the authority to impose such broad tariffs using a 1977 emergency law. The court determined the law doesn’t permit tariffs as a national emergency tool, leading Trump’s team to pledge an appeal.
The administration’s deputy press secretary, Kush Desai, criticized the ruling, calling it a decision by “unelected judges” and reaffirming Trump’s commitment to “put America First.” Meanwhile, Trump was visibly irritated when questioned about the “TACO” acronym — “Trump Always Chickens Out” — which pokes fun at his tendency to impose high tariffs only to later reduce them. Trump insisted his tactics were part of “negotiation,” not cowardice. Democrats like Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon have also condemned Trump’s tariffs, arguing they are unconstitutional.
