Weather alert issued to 60,000,000 Americans living in these areas as experts warn of post-Christmas travel chaos
Millions of Americans traveling after Christmas may face serious weather disruptions, as winter conditions are expected to intensify across large parts of the United States.
Around 60 million people are under weather alerts, with forecasts predicting sleet and heavy snowfall as the country heads toward New Year’s Eve. For many regions, this could finally bring the kind of winter weather often associated with the holidays.
Those planning to go out between Christmas and New Year are advised to bundle up, as temperatures are expected to drop sharply while snow moves through several states.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for counties including Broome, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, and Delaware, effective from Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning.
Additional winter weather advisories cover nearby counties, while areas such as New York City, Long Island, Pennsylvania, and parts of New England could see snowfall totals ranging from three to six inches.
Some regions, particularly southwestern New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, may receive up to a foot of snow. Forecasters say conditions will likely require plowing and shoveling, with freezing temperatures adding to the danger.
Travel could be heavily impacted during one of the busiest weekends of the year. Major airports, including JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Philadelphia, are under severe weather alerts, making delays and cancellations likely.
