Why Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell recently opened up about the challenges of raising his 21-year-old son James, who has Angelman Syndrome—a rare genetic disorder that causes intellectual and developmental delays. In a new interview with Candis magazine, Farrell explained why he wants James to eventually live in a care facility rather than staying at home. While he respects parents who choose to care for their children themselves, Farrell fears what would happen if something happened to both him and James’ mother, Kim Bordenave. He worries James could become a ward of the state, losing the opportunity to live in a supportive, familiar environment.

Farrell also emphasized the importance of meaningful connections for his son, saying James can sense when someone truly wants to be with him. That emotional awareness plays a key role in their decision to seek a community setting where James can thrive. Farrell and Bordenave want to find a facility now, while they’re still present and healthy, so they can be part of James’ transition. Their goal is for him to live a full and joyful life, rich with daily routines, social outings, and a sense of belonging—something they believe a larger, engaged community can better provide.
