An Argentinian woman was scammed out of £10,000 after being tricked into believing she was helping George Clooney get a divorce. The fraud began when she followed a Facebook account posing as the actor. Over six weeks, she received AI-generated videos of a deepfake Clooney expressing love and gratitude, convincing her that he needed money for a Fans Club card to secure a divorce from his wife, Amal Clooney. Realizing too late that it was a scam, she reported the incident to the FBI.

Similarly, a French woman named Anne was scammed out of €830,000 by fraudsters posing as Brad Pitt, leading her to divorce her millionaire husband. Believing she was in a relationship with the actor, she sent money for supposed cancer treatment and gifts. The deception only became clear when she saw photos of the real Pitt with his girlfriend. An investigation revealed that the scammers were three Nigerian citizens.
